Peace Research Institute Frankfurt
Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) was founded in 1970 by the state government of Hessen as an independent foundation. Its constitution guarantees PRIF full academic freedom. The Peace Research Institute does not carry out any commissioned research for the state government. With more than 60 members of staff, PRIF is to date the largest as well as the oldest peace research institution in Germany. It is also the second biggest German think-tank for security affairs, following the federal Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik. The work of the institute has been directed towards identifying the causes of violent international and internal societal conflicts, carrying out research into the conditions necessary for peace. Scholarly publishing activities and regular teaching engagements of staff at the universities of Frankfurt/Main and Darmstadt, PRIF is also well established in the field of political counseling on state, federal and international levels.
