The University of Leeds is one of the leading research universities in the UK. It is a very successful recipient of EU funding, and has been consistently in the ‘top ten’ for EU research funding over the last decade. The School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds has a substantial research base, and achieved the highest rating (5A) in the last national Research Assessment Exercise in 2001. The School houses five Research Centers of which two are relevant to this project: the Centre for International Research on Care, Labor and Equalities and the Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies. The research in both these centers is internationally recognized. Projects have included Black and Minority Ethnic Women in the Labor Market, Care in Trans-national Families, Migration and Care, Cash and Care in Europe, Race in the Media, Ethnicity and Diaspora, Housing Ethnicity and Policy in Europe, Institutional Racism in Higher Education, Higher Education and South Asian Women, and Gender, Ethnicity and Citizenship in Europe.
